Harcourt 03

'Harcourt 03' Index links to: Lead / Letter
Families covered: Harcourt of Ankerwycke, Harcourt of Penley, Harcourt of Raunton, Harcourt of Stanton Harcourt, Harcourt of Wigsell, Harcourt of Wytham (Witham)

BE1883 and BLG1886 allocate Simon's children differently. BE1883 reports that Mary, his first wife, was mother of Walter, John, Elizabeth and Jane ("with other issue"). However, BLG1886 identifies all of those children mentioned by BE1883 as by Jane, his third wife. Because it also specifies (without naming) other children by the other wives, we follow BLG1886 but note that this may be wrong.

(i) William 'de Breteuil' (dvpsp 1190)

'The House of Hamilton' shows William (shown by both GenEU and TCP as an elder brother of the 4th Earl) to be a younger brother of that Earl and a possible ancestor of the Hamilton family in Scotland. As any surviving male issue of a brother of the Earl would have had an easy claim on the earldom, this would only have been likely had the issue not been legitimate (which of course may have been the case) or had been formally attainted (which is unlikely as a record of this would certainly have been made). However, it is noted that William's brother Roger was a key figure in Scotland around the time of (or just before) the appearance of the first proven member of the Hamilton family (see Hamilton01).

This page shows two alternative ancestries offered for Woden (aka Odin or Wotan or Bodo).

This ancestry is given by 'RoyalData' which reports the Icelandic 'Prose Edda'. It can be found in several records although many, not wishing to push the mythical nature of this ancestry too far, prefer to start with Sceaf (example: 'The Royal Line of Succession', published by Pitkin Guides Ltd in 1996, ISBN 0-85372-404-0) or later.

[This page was revised significantly on 02.03.04 when information was added and part of the previous version was put into 'Adam5'. It is not yet finished but will be worked on and added to in due course.]

Dardanus provides a connection between the Biblical stories and the ancient Greek mythologies. It would be misleading to say that he provides "the connection" because the link could probably be placed on other people and, in any case, those mythologies are reported differently according to different traditions. The versions we show appear to be widely accepted but are not universally accepted.

1. This page is by no means complete but will be worked on and added to from time to time. It mainly follows the Greek Myths but some Roman name equivalents have been added.

2. Visitors interested in Greek Mythology are recommended to 'surf the Web' for there are many sites that have much to offer on this subject (including those identified under 'Main sources' below). However, don't be surprised to see different sites report different genealogies for the Gods - after all, they were (to the best of our knowledge) entirely mythical!

[NB. The connections of these Gods to the rest of the database come through Dardanus who is shown at the top of 'Adam4'. That page provides connections to 'Adam5' and 'Saxons1'. That page also, as well as linking him to these pages on the Gods (through his descent from Zeus), provides an alternative ancestry that shows him descended from Adam & Eve.]

Key

This page provides shortcuts to selected individuals within the Families Database.

The Selected Individuals identified in the various Groups below have each been flagged with § in the Families Database. Except for those in Group A, who are highlighted even more clearly in green, each Selected Individual is also drawn attention to by a turquoise marker on the relevant page (normally over the reference cell). Click on the § to return to this page.

Some of these Selected Individuals, along with various other people, have been flagged with §X§ which means that that person appears in a table or list somewhere else in the site, with X identifying which table/list that is. Click on that flag to go to the relevant page. The alternatives are:
- §P§ : someone who has been made the subject of a Pen Profile within Stirnet Histories.
- §R§ : an ancestor of the Princes William & Harry, the sons of Charles Windsor, the present Prince of Wales, who is mentioned on the Royals01 tree (or on the intermediary Royals02 page).
- §T§ : someone mentioned on the Genealogy Traps page as a person whose genealogy is often misrepresented.
